Making a count. Who has written/e-mailed OPRAH so far???
Hello everyone
Who has written/e-mailed Oprah so far? Which way by mail or e-mail? What day? Just making a count to try and get people motivated. Try to do so within the next two weeks. We are all rallying together to try and get her to do a show on HSV. Solvingtheproblem has graciously started a letter template at the below thread. Thanks to all who have been involved with this effort put forth so far
Cheers,
-B-

I guess I'll be the one to start the count. I e-mailed her three days ago on 3/21/09 and will be sending in a package in a couple of weeks.
Cheers,

I'm not saying it's not a good idea, but I thought I read that this has been done before and Oprah just ignored the idea. I thought it was about Oprah and Dr. Phil and how getting them to acknowledge this epidemic was not going to happen - they did not respond.
Hope it works, but I've heard it didn't before. I don't know why not, unless they just didn't want to touch the subject. ?

GinnyP,
and others please don't be negative about this. It might have been tried before but I think if enough of us stand up and say we are not going to be ignored anymore that it might just work. I went down to secretary of states office yesterday to get the paperwork to start a charitable organization so even if getting Oprah's attention doesn't work there are a lot of other rich people in this world and some of them have this disease so I can't see all of them just ignoring our plea. We have to stay POSITIVE and keep trying until people start to hear our voices!!!! How can 90% of the population just not care about a cure. PLEASE come on.

The only thing I can find online about this is that one person tried to get in contact with Oprah back in 2005. They don't appear to have replied, but there is nothing to suggest that the idea was ignored any more than any other seemingly niche subject was ignored.
What we have to make the producers realise now, in 2009, is that herpes is not niche, it's everywhere.
I think what's being proposed here is quite different. We're talking about hundreds of letters expressing the desire of millions to see a solution to this medical problem.
Time to speak and be heard.

Well, I wasn't really being negative. Like I said, it sounds like a good idea. I just thought I had read that they didn't want anything to do with it, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try, and I didn't say we shouldn't. Like I said, hope it works. I've wished numerous times that they would do a show on it to tell people how prevalent herpes really is. And how many people don't know they have it. I wish the damn valtrex commercials would state how many people really have it.

You make a perfectly fair point. Can you remember where you read this? It would be useful to know, so that we take a different approach this time.

I wish I could remember, I've researched so many articles and studies and posts in the past 17 months. I have no idea where I read it. I'm sorry I can't help with that, because it would be good to go about it "differently" if it didn't work before. I think if it's a show we want, we should all have a common goal or something that will make the idea of the show stand out. Is there a theme we're hoping for? Because if we just say we want a show about how we all feel having herpes, I don't know if that is enough for producers and such to think, yeah, that would be a great show! It's got to have something very significant behind it, something that can make the show very important to the producers, star, and viewers alike. Although our feelings are very important to us, we need to get something across to those deciding about why this show will make the audience stick around for the entire hour. Hmmm....
If there was a previous thread that mentioned something like this I didn't see it.

GinnyP,
I posted the thread at the beginning. Solvingtheproblem wrote an amazing letter template with a 1-2-3 approach. Please everyone try to use that and share your personal stories if you'd like.
Thanks,
