Hi, I was diagnoed a few days ago.
I was just wondering how many people find alcohol a trigger... and how much/how often they have to drink to trigger it?
I can't really imagine giving up alcohol, sad as it sounds, my whole ocial life revolves round it. I also enjoy a glass of wine most evenings even if i am not socialising

I've had H for about 4 months now, with 4 OBs. All 3 post my initial have been triggered by drinking alcohol. But. I need to add that all 3 were after nights of HEAVY drinking, up till 3am type of nights. I have casually drank many times in between with no problems and I'm not on meds. Combine meds and getting through the first 6 months to a year, I fully hope that even heavy drinking won't cause much issue. All that being said, I wouldn't have H if I didn't get to drunk one night and make a mistake.

Staying up till 3am drinking is one of my favourite things to do :(
Are you going to ask for meds to take every day then? I have to go back to the clinic thursday, but i presume theyll want to wait a few months before deciding whether to offer me any meds.
I worry about the unknown long term health risks of taking medication everyday, especially newish medication - is this something you have worried about at all?

You should be more concerned about what all that drinking does to your body and your brain, rather than be a trigger for outbreaks as the partying lifestyle will catch up to you eventually.
This virus is different for everybody. There is no set time for outbreaks to occur for anyone, even after a night of drinking.

It's a supplement you can buy in the vitamin section of any store. Basically helps restore and replenish your immunity.

    Hey Venus,

For me, the next day after the heavy drinking/terrible sleep/weakening of my immune system I get the tell tale pain down the back of the leg prodrome, followed by skin cracking a day or two later. No real blisters for me. I've had one in 4 months so far.

And no, I would not worry at all about being on daily meds. They have been proven to be very safe and effective.

I also love drinking and don't plan on stopping, but I have cut back these past few months.

I have never had alcohol affect me to where it had produced any symptoms, but I do often feel tired and rundown more than usual. I drink almost every night. Maybe everyone is different?
