Yes it does help them heal quicker and it didn't sting too bad for me. It isn't an instant quick fix but the warm water eased the pain and relaxed me and the salt dried them out. If you are worried about it maybe you could try it and not put too much salt in the bath. I used Epsom salt for mine. Hope this helps!

Epsom Salt not table salt etc.

Epsom Salts are actually Magnesium Sulfate they are not the same as salt you use for food.

Use about 1-2 cups for an entire bath tub full of water and just relax. Part of the magic is that the magnesium absorbs through your skin and contributes to a calming effect and the water on your sores helps to soften the pain and speed drying.

They range in price from $2-5. They are less expensive at Walmart and Target and are in the first aid department and usually packaged in a carton.

Epsom Salts themselves do not sting but when you have fresh wounds the water will initially cause a slight stinging sensation. This usually stops within a minute.

I heard so many positive things about the epsom salt bath, that I though I would give it a try. So I did, the long tub was relaxing, buy he burning and stinging was so not worth it, this is just my personal experience, I won't be doing that again... Ouch!!

I just had my first Epsom bath experience and it wasn't massively painful but I wasn't quite expecting. I just hope it helps speed up my recovery! I, like most of us on here, am experiencing such a painful first outbreak. the painkillers aren't working, the numbing gel doesn't last long enough. I need a wee but I'm afraid to go as last time resulted in my crying! I've tried peeing in the bath(no salt) and also pouring a cup of water over my sensitive parts whilst I pee but nothing. going to put some gel on now and risk it in 10.
